Nursery Progress

So I am finally here to share the progress we have made on Mason's nursery since we started working on it! I say finally like we're running out of time, but actually, I think we are pretty far ahead of the game on this one. We found out at 17 weeks that we are having a boy, and pretty much immediately hit the ground running on getting the nursery all ready for his arrival. At 25 weeks, we still have empty drawers, extra space, and plenty of bookshelves to fill up with everything we will get from the shower...but all the big stuff is done. Walls are painted, carpeting is installed, furniture is up, and decor is coming along!

I've known for probably a good year before even becoming pregnant that if I ever had a baby boy, I wanted to do a vintage travel theme in his nursery. And so Mason's nursery theme is none other than a vintage travel theme in light grey, light blue, cream and tan...along with little elephant, giraffe, and lion accents. (P.S. the lighting is very challenging in this room...so please bear with me!)

The first thing you see when you walk up to the nursery is this coffee filter wreath I made for his door. I  incorporated all the colors of the nursery, along with the travel theme by using little map print paper luggage tags to create a banner with his name on it. I make and sell handmade & custom-made wreaths like this in my Etsy shop. If you would like to check it out...just click here!

When you open the door, you see the opposite wall which is a big, built-in bookshelf. This area has become the main focal point of the room. Prior to having the room painted, the walls and bookshelf were a very dark brown wood paneling. The bookcase really didn't look like anything special, but once it was all painted, I absolutely fell in LOVE with it. All of the paint colors are by Benjamin Moore. The main, tan color is called Broken Arrow and the trim work and front of the bookshelf is Fog Mist (which ended up being an incredible match to the furniture we chose!) The ceiling color is Blue Springs, as well as the letters that are spelling his name across the top.

My mom & dad bought me the glider which is the Kacy Collection Preston Glider in Cargo Pumice from Babies R Us. I found a throw with the perfect blend of colors to drape over it (and use to snuggle with) from Home Goods. If you read my Nursery Planning and Inspiration post, I talked about how I wanted to stack some vintage looking suitcases as part of the decor. I found just the right ones at Home Goods as well!

We obviously have a lot of filling up to do on the bookshelves, but I'm working on finding little things here and there. I registered for several more of the giraffe bins at Babies R Us to fill with books that I choose not to display, or any other odds and ends. (I suspect that after the baby shower, we will have more than enough to fill up these shelves with!)

On the wall to the right, is the Truly Scrumptious by Heidi Klum Chifferobe in the color Mist. Since the room does not actually have a closet in it, a chifferobe or armoire was on the top of my list as far as what I was looking for in terms of nursery furniture. I saw this set the first time my mom and I went looking around Babies R Us when I found out I was expecting, and pretty much knew immediately it was the one I wanted. I love everything about this furniture set, especially all the detailing on it. (And I cannot wait to put our little baby boy in that sweet little sleeper I've got hanging on the front!)

On the opposite wall is our changing table, which is actually the double dresser from the Truly Scrumptious by Heidi Klum set. The changing table topper was sold separately and is detachable. I've already started filling the drawers with lots of Burt's Bee's Baby burp clothes, bodysuits, and more. I found the elephant and giraffe wall hangings at Cribs to College, which is a huge semi-local store for baby and youth furniture. They have all the furniture set up in decorated displays and you can also purchase any of the decor you see in the store. When I found these in the perfect colors, I knew I had to have them...hence where the elephant, giraffe, and lion accent idea was born.

Finally, on the wall opposite the bookshelf is Mason's crib. We angled it in the corner which added some nice dimension to the room, instead of having all the furniture flush against each wall. His crib is the Truly Scrumptious by Heidi Klum 4-in-1 Lifetime Crib in Mist. One of my favorite finds was this Sadie & Scout World Map Crib Sheet from Babies R Us. I was just so jazzed to find a crib sheet that went with perfectly with the travel theme!

I have always dreamed of having a chandelier in my baby's nursery. But along with no closet, this room also has no ceiling light. My mom came to my rescue and found this amazing chandelier floor lamp from RH Baby & Child (you can find it here). And even more amazingly, decided to buy it for us. (I've mentioned before how extremely generous my parents always are to us, right?!) And I know I've said I am just absolutely in love with everything in this room, but this lamp seriously might take the cake! It was the most beautiful finishing touch to this nursery and I am so appreciative that we have it!

So like I said, all the big stuff is done! I'm still on the hunt for the perfect globe and we still need the sound machine, the diaper pail, the humidifier...all the little accessories. (I can't even wrap my mind around all the stuff you need for a baby and where everything is going to go.) But I think we have a pretty great start for our little guy! And I'm so happy we got an early start, because for now...I can just sit back, relax & enjoy the room (and dream of what it's going to be like when Mason is here and in it!)

25 Weeks

How far along? 25 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain/loss: 15+
Maternity clothes? Still wearing some of both, but I think once I officially hit that third trimester, it's going to be mostly maternity wear for this (soon-to-be) momma.
Stretch marks? I think I might have seen one or two new little ones this week. Yikes!
Sleep: Sleeping pretty great with my lovely Snoogle
Best moment this week: my mom sending out the invitations for my baby shower, and watching items slowly starting to come off my registry. Am I the only one who loves to stalk their registry and try to guess who's buying what?....
Miss Anything? A glass of wine during the Bachelorette on Monday nights.
Movement: Yep
Food cravings: Cake and/or cupcakes. My pregnancy sweet tooth is definitely not fading, but I'm really trying to watch it as my glucose test is coming up soon...eek!
Anything making you queasy or sick: No
Gender: Boy
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Heartburn, but not terrible. Something I've forgotten to mention on here that has been an annoying symptom this entire trimester is bleeding gums! I floss my teeth every day, and every day when I do so...I have a mouth full of blood (so gross!!)
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: our first childbirth preparation class tomorrow, moving into the third trimester in 8 days (ah!!!), and my baby shower in one month! (I'm really looking forward to the baby shower...can't wait!)

24 Weeks

How far along? 24 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain/loss: between 13-14 pounds up. Normal weight gain around this time is .5 to 1 pound a week, and I seem to be hanging out right in that range.
Maternity clothes? Still wearing both, although I realized that I never did wear my regular jeans this week (I'll have to check and see if they still fit!) And as far as all my regular sized tops, the stretchy ones are starting to get almost too short and the looser fitting ones are finally starting to get almost too tight in the tummy. So I would say it's going to be strictly maternity wear by the time I hit the third trimester. This week, I went to Motherhood and picked up three more of those maternity v-necks like the black one I got from Buy Buy Baby. Those things are my absolute favorite!
Stretch marks? No new ones, but I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Mustela Intensive Action Stretch Mark Cream. This will hopefully help to minimize the appearance of the old ones that are showing through and prevent any new ones from popping up!
Sleep: Another thing I FINALLY decided to bite the bullet on. I woke up yesterday and my back was just killing me...so bad that it hurt to breath. So I decided that first my first stop of the day (after Starbucks) would be to Babies R Us for that $60 Snoogle Total Body Pillow. And I ended up getting A GREAT DEAL! I remembered I had a 20% off coupon from Buy Buy Baby (Babies R Us accepts these). So that took it down to $48. I then piled my $25 in Babies R Us reward dollars on top of that. So I only ended up paying $25 (with tax) for the pillow! I can't begin to explain how happy this made me! (And I slept and woke up much better because of it.)
Best moment this week: Scoring some super awesome deals this week at Motherhood, Babies R Us and Home Goods ($5 changing pad cover....holla)
Miss Anything? Not really
Movement: Yup! Last night, I laid on the couch watching my belly twitch as Mason kicked away in there. He is clearly getting stronger & stronger! (I've never seen it do this before...so amazingly bizarre)
Food cravings: Apparently anything unhealthy I lay my eyes on. Ugh. Still the sweets especially. I should really just completely avoid the whole bakery section of the grocery store...and the ice cream aisle...
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender: Boy
Labor Signs: Nope, but I did very clearly feel a Braxton Hicks contraction this morning. Pretty sure I have had a few in the past couple weeks. But today's was much more obvious.
Symptoms: Had some more round ligament pain going on this week. And a killer backache. I am almost positive that kneeling in church on Sundays is causing these intense back aches, because I am only getting them late Sunday/early Monday and then they dissipate and I'm fine the rest of the week.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Childbirth prep classes starting & moving into the third trimester really soon...wait...WHAT?!?

23 Weeks

{Remembered I had taken the same bump shot, in the same outfit,
several weeks apart. My baby boy is growing!}

How far along? 23 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain/loss: I was right on point last week. I was in between 12-13 pounds up at my appointment on Friday. So I would say by today...I'm up 13 pounds.
Maternity clothes? Still wearing both.
Stretch marks? Just the old ones. I'm so glad they aren't the red, really obvious kind. You can't even see them from a distance, but I can. I'm just hoping I don't get any new ones! So far, so good...
Sleep: I think I have actually been sleeping too much! I've been staying in bed until about 8:30, sometimes 9am the past week or so, and my back is starting to feel the effect. I've been pretty sore and achy this past week. I need to get up and get my booty moving early again!
Best moment this week: Greg being able to feel Mason kick! Also, celebrating Mother's Day as a first time mommy-to-be! The day seemed so much more special knowing that next year, I will be celebrating it with my own child and feeling so grateful to my mom for all the sacrifices she has made for me, and the wonderful life and love she has given me.
Miss Anything? Sleeping comfortably and in my normal position
Movement: Definitely! I love quietly laying in bed at night and in the morning and feeling him kicking away in there. (This is when I can feel him the best.)
Food cravings: fresh, cold fruit sounds and looks really good to me this week
Anything making you queasy or sick: No. But I'm starting to have heartburn more and more frequently, which isn't much fun.
Gender: Having a sweet baby boy!
Labor Signs: Nope
Symptoms: I feel like week 23 was the magic week for me when I finally started to really feel pregnant. I can now clearly feel our little guy's movements both inside and out, and was finally able to catch a moment when Greg could feel them too. And I officially have a defined baby bump, instead of just feeling like I'm gaining weight. That thing became rock hard this week! (Along with this came a sorer back and general uncomfortableness...but it just reminds me of this crazy miracle happening inside me.)
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!
Looking forward to: Our childbirth preparation classes! We signed up this weekend and start our first one on Wednesday, May 27. Some of you are probably wondering what I am looking forward to about that lol. I am one of those people who likes to know as much as possible about whatever I'm getting myself into, beforehand. I'm not a huge fan of surprises. So I am looking forward to feeling more prepared for and informed about the labor process and for having the baby here with us! (We also signed up for a breastfeeding class, as well as baby basics and safety classes.) Yea, I'll be the one in the front row taking extensive notes...

P.S. A nursery tour post is coming VERY soon! We pretty much have the room all ready (except for filling it all up after the baby shower!) I am just waiting for Greg to hang the wall art and take my last few pictures!

22 Weeks

How far along? 23 weeks today
Total weight gain/loss: I'm going to say I'm about 12 pounds up right now. I will know for sure tomorrow at my next weigh-in/appointment.
Maternity clothes? Wearing a mixture of regular and maternity
Stretch marks? No...just those pesky old ones that are reappearing around my stomach AND hips...boo.
Sleep: Sleeping pretty well. I'm a little achy when I wake up, but using an extra pillow definitely helps.
Best moment this week: Maternity moment: feeling Mason kicking nice & strong this week!
Non-maternity moment: visiting my sister at school and spending the weekend with my family.
Miss Anything? I went on a vineyard tour with my parents & sister when we went to visit her this weekend. I definitely could have gone for enjoying the complimentary wine tasting with them! Instead I sat there and drank my bottle of water and ate crackers...fun fun!
Movement: I finally started to feel some stronger kicks and movement this week! This is what I've been waiting for! There is no doubt in my mind that it is my little man moving around in there. I mostly feel them whenever I am sitting down or laying on my back. Now I'm just tying to catch a moment when Greg will be able to feel it!
Food cravings: A burger & fries. I went by Burger King one day this past week and the smell lured me in. I couldn't resist! That charbroiled smell...mmmmm....I don't even like Burger King usually...
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope
Gender: Boy!
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Just a little heartburn here & there this week
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: One happy camper! (Although I did have a couple cranky moments this week.)
Looking forward to: Hearing Mason's heartbeat again at my appointment tomorrow. I love that sound so much!
